We've had some recent activities around here, but I just haven't found as much time to post these pictures.  My son, Caleb, turned 3 at the end of August.  He's a big fan of trains, so I used one of his toys as a prop for his birthday cake:

Also, my friend Leah came over recently and brought her daughter, Jordan, who really likes cake decorating.  She's a big fan of the cake shows and wants to be a professional decorator when she grows up.  Since it was her birthday, Leah brought her over to my house and I brought out all of my supplies and "stuff" for her to use to decorate her own birthday cake.  I think she did a pretty good job--she may have a future on Ace of Cakes!

We recently bought this new camera--mostly for other purposes (ie, China), but it works well taking photos of food, so I used it for some recent birthday cakes.

Farmers market

So last week, I decided to try my hand at selling at the farmer's market.  I went on Saturday morning and set up, and spent a few hours selling cinnamon rolls, cupckes, and mini-cakes.  In all, it was a pretty successful morning, and I knew they repeated the whole thing on Wednesday evenings, so I thought: why not go back and try again.  Except a couple of things: Wednesdays are at 5pm, so trying to get there in evening traffic just ended up with me showing up late.  My table had to be set up down on the end, around the corner, which is the last place most people stop, if at all.  And, after about 45 minutes, it started downpouring in a large thunderstorm, so everyone had to pack up and leave.  Oh well, you win some and...well, you know.

Starting out

Because of some recent events and a few things I have done, I've decided to start a cake decorating business.  I know this will probably be small, but I enjoy doing it and it is a creative outlet for me that also benefits other people.  I started working in a bakery when I was 16 and a sophomore in high school.  At first, I just helped customers and sold donuts at the counter, but after a couple years, I started to learn some other aspects.  I started decorating cakes when I was 19, and mostly did birthdays, graduations, and wedding cakes and I loved it!  I worked there for 8 years before quitting to become a nurse.  I have done cakes for friends during the past several years and I think it's time to start some of this up again.  So, we shall see how this whole thing goes and watch it develop!
